Update

The more serious side of production began in earnest today. After finalising the decision to build out of Unity last week, we've started making a lot of ground on understanding the intricacies of the systems involved with Unity.
While the experience with UDK (Unreal Development Kit) would have looked good on a resume, we had to face the facts that were staring us in the face. With some Unity experience already present within the team, the realistic option was to play to our strengths and develop out of an engine we are familiar with in an attempt to cut the learning curve as much as possible.
Unfortunately Unity isn't playing nice when it comes to utilising the repository, so we'll be spending the next while going over our options of code storage and project backup. Google Drive is amazing, by the way; if you haven't tried it yet, it'll make your life a lot easier.
We'll try to get some screenshots of work in progress up sometime in the next few days; with no designated artists on the development team, the visual elements of the project are going to be 'interesting'.
Until future updates.

An Introduction to Hocus Pocus

I would like to introduce the members of Hocus Pocus; a university development group undertaking an assignment to complete a rapid game prototype. The team consists of five programmers from the second year of the Software Engineering degree at the Media Design School. In no particular order, here are the members of the team: Mana Khamphanpheng, Jade Abbot, Bryce Booth, Jamie Smith and Nathan Boon.

The project is eight weeks long, and after some initial and very brief decision making, the project we have decided on is a stand-alone variation of the popular ‘Warlocks’ mod for Warcraft III. With arena based combat, levelling spells, rewards and progression, we aim to have a fully functioning, enjoyable and intuitive game by the project deadline.

Over the following weeks we will endeavour to keep you updated on the project as much as we can. Major decisions and milestones will be covered in later blogs, as well as some unique insights into the development process.

Thanks for reading.
